Don't Ever Accuse Me of Being a Drama Queen

After a nice weekend with the in-laws celebrating my youngest sister in law's engagement, which involved quite a lot of eating, I had good intentions for today - dusting off my gym card and eating healthily. However, things were thrown a little off course when I had a major run in with the accounts woman at Zaki's pre-school.  I really hate confrontation and usually do anything to avoid it but I was surprised to find myself quickly arguing in French with the rudest woman I have met in a long time.  It's amazing how your language skills improve once fuelled by adrenaline.

Joking aside, she really upset me and it was all I could do to buy the vegetables for lunch and get home whereupon  I 'phoned my husband, burst in to tears and announced we were going back to England! Of course we're not although I may be hatching a plan to return at some point but as it involves winning the lottery or writing a best selling book, it isn't going to be anytime soon.

No visit to the gym.  Healthy eating until the afternoon when I had some chocolate cake.  Comfort eating is my downfall.

I did manage to calm down and make a start on my FAL list and while experiencing a bout of deja vu, basted the stained quilt for a second time...

You can still see the stitch marks from the last quilting so I had more deja vu while starting to quilt it for the second time...

...while wearing these funny quilt grippers - they did sort of grip until they fell off and I temporarily lost them underneath the quilt.  On more than one occasion I worried that I would turn my quilt over and see one of them impaled in the quilting!  Don't buy them - they are flim flam.

I'm hoping to get the quilting finished tomorrow.  The binding is made and so I hope to have my first finish in a day or so!  Now I'm off to work on that plan...lottery, best selling book, Dragon's Den investing in my business, aged reclusive billionairess aunt who I have never met makes me sole beneficiary of her will, tax rebate, premium bond comes up...

  1. lol you made me laugh, I also realised I don't do bad at French when I argued loudly in a supermarket to their customer service team, I even talked loudly like they do here :O)
Hope you feel better now and good for you, chocolate always helps.

  5. ROFL...it always makes me laugh when I try and argue then don't understand what they are saying back to me as they talk so quickly and then they start to shout as if I am deaf too!!! It's dam hard leaving away from home, I've been getting really homesick this last year. We are going to UK in April for a holiday, maybe that will cure me. I love your quilt, really like stained glass, I saw Helen's and fell in love with that too, did you use a pattern? Hugs x

  6. Sorry to hear about that rude accounts woman but good for you arguing in French! At least you had chocolate cake (I'm very envious!) and are going to end up with a beautiful quilt. She'll still just be a rude obnoxious woman :(

  7. Accounts woman you say? Bet she carries cash! A plan is forming!

Hope tomorrow goes way better xxx

  8. Oh bugger, nothing like a meanie screwing up the start of your day! I nearly strangled my colleague at lunchtime, but our manager talked me down (she wanted a go ;o) )

  9. Rude people are the worst because their lack of decency gives them extra weaponry. But you have still have the moral advantage, linguistic skills, chocolate cake and a quilt - don't despair!

  10. I am always horrible failing in being rude. I never get the words in my head I needed in that second. But I know exactly the calling hub to go back home ...

    Great chocolate helped :)

  11. Oh I feel for you! I hate confrontation too (though I've never tried it in French!!). Try a pair of marigold rubber gloves when quilting - they work a treat! Jxo

  12. Oh I hate that! I'm the same way with confrontation, but the bonus language skills sounds fun. :) I usually loose the ability to speak coherently. ;)

  14. I'm so sorry you had a run in. Poor you. I usually take it all out on a quilt, it's amazing how productive and focused you can become after a to-do.
A friend of mine uses washing up gloves to quilt in. I haven't tried it myself but she swears by it.
    Hope you are feeling better.

  16. Would you mind sharing that aunt? Lol btw, why do you have to quilt that quilt agin? Did I miss something?

  17. I am sure that the account woman has a chocolate problem in her life: either she has none, or too much and very bad.

  18. Chocolate cake has no calories when one is recovering from loud argument in French. Trust me on this one, but maybe tomorrow you should stick with vegetables and fruit.

  19. I share your comfort eating downfall. Your quilt is going to be gorgeous. Love the fabrics. I like your master plan, too. :) Hope tomorrow goes better at the preschool! xo

  20. It's times like this that's really miss not being able to jump up and down and rant at someone in English. I give up because there's just no point. They just ignore the mad English woman crucifying their language! It makes me a much calmer, tolerant person!

  21. grrrrrr to arguments, but YAY to chocolate!

  22. Oh I hate confrontation (except with my kids and that doesn't count). I end up seething and thinking about it forever, and all the things I wish I had been clever enough to say at the time. Those little rubber fingers look so funny! Sorry! And glad to see you calmed yourself with sewing. You and me will be in our own little corners of the world today stitching down binding then. Enjoy!

  23. Oh I hate that 'C' word! Glad to hear the day improved, well, there has to be chocolate cake for days like that!

  24. Oh, pet, I do feel for you. I'm not good with confrontation, either. And I have one looming over a bill for pony riding. Ack.

You do write in a most entertaining manner, though, so don't give up the novel dream! I'd read it...

  25. I hate days like that. Hope today is a better day for you. The quilt looks stunning and I'm looking forward to seeing it in all its glory.
I think I might have to bake some chocolate cake today. Not because I'm having a bad day but because it sounds yummy :-)

  26. I hope the nasty woman backed down and apologised? No? What a surprise! Well done for standing your ground, though! Hope the situation gets resolved without any more confrontations...
Stained is looking gorgeous but oh, how depressing to be stitching in the same holes as last time!

  27. Ugh! I'm sorry - I had a run in with pair of rude girls at the supermarket last week. It really can rattle you - how can people be so badly behaved??! Hope you are over it now, I'm sure chocolate cake and a sewing machine are a good cure!

  28. Hope you make it to the gym - you will feel better after. Fingers crossed for the lottery win!

  29. yay - glad you're joining in the FAL - love your quilts and I don't think I'll ever get sick of looking at that fabulous patchwork wheel quilt - it really is amazing :) and can't wait to see that stained glass all quilted.

  30. I'll be very blunt...mean people suck! I'm sorry someone upset you so much. Hopefully the sewing will make you happy

  31. It's funny how one nasty exchange with an unpleasant person can rock your day. Quilting a beauty like that is the best medicine!

  32. Oh, you sound like me! I hate confrontation too, but I wouldn't have stood up for myself. I would have cried in front of her if I did try! It was probably over something like $20 too! Some people are just ridiculous. Have you tried quilting gloves. I haven't and thought they were a but gimmicky too, but I've decided to try and quilt more if my own quilts and now I'm thinking I need something otherwise I'm gripping so hard my hands are getting fatigued.

  33. Sorry you had to deal with such a beast! Hopefully she isn't around the kids much! But it sounds like you tackled the situation much the same as I would have. Bummer the finger-condom-gripper things didn't work out, too. Here's hoping you have better luck with the lotto!
