If I couldn't sew then perhaps I could get my camera out. It's a holiday here today and so Zaki and I headed in to the old town for a wander round the souqs. Armed with a new SD card, I had grand intentions of taking lots of photos but it was quieter than usual and my people watching was being watched by other people.

Then I spied a sign on the wall stating how rude it was to take photos of people without their permission (which I guess it is). And that was it. My photographic mojo would have needed one of those little blue pills to do anything else...

ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo. Shame about the sign. I would have taken a photo of the sign. I took one on the Israeli Jordanian border once that said photography forbidden, and not to veer off the road as there was the possibility of land mines. Some signs are more interesting than others!

ReplyDeleteIt was a fabulous photograph though. I hate it when something puts you off taking a pic. I once at a big craft event had someone really have a go at me because I dared to take a picture without asking. I pointed out she hadn't been there or anywhere in the vicinity to ask and if she didn't want people to take pictures maybe she should have a sign. The rest of the day I asked everyone before daring to take a snap and most of them looked at me like I was mad for asking because nobody else was. It spoilt the day photographically wise. Ironic though because the picture I got told off for I took because I intended going back and buying something...of course I never did.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting question, when one is out in public there is no right to expect privacy. However, there can be cultural issues too. I love this picture, it is just stunning. I hope you take more, and don't let the world get you down.

ReplyDeleteThat is sort of a grey area, huh? I can see not wanting to be photographed, but in public spaces I'm not sure one can expect privacy. Your photos are lovely though!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the majority of people need little 'signs' speaking on their behalf: the kind of person who puts up a sign like that is the kind of person who puts up those 'no turning here' signs (with additional rocks) here in the uk, which are so horribly unfriendly to the lost, or slightly less offensively 'keep off the grass'.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it is a little different in Muslim countries where people are a lot more sensitive to depiction of all kinds... particularly sensitive also to having pictures taken of mosques etc. and where self image is much more of an issue.
That said though, I love your photo, it brings back fond memories of my trip there so long ago now, when I was child-free!
Take some landscape photos instead: the sky and the earth won't be offended :-)
It's a stunning photo though annabella. I've never come across anyone getting upset about taking photos, although in some countries (probably yours!) it is frowned on. You should go on holiday with my brother in law. Some of the photos he takes, it's a wonder he doesn't get beaten up!
