Stash Defining

Make a scrappy trip around the world block or two and you soon see the colours in your stash so no surprises here - pinks, purples, greens and not enough blues.

Wall flower? No.  Pale and uninteresting?  Definitely not pale.

Loud, mismatched, colourful, in your face, scrapbusting...?

Not everyone's 'cup of tea' but I like it! Blocks 1-12 of the scrappy trip around the world quilt.

I Will Not be Defeated

Thank you so much again for all your comments about that baby quilt...you know, the one for my sister in law whose baby girl is due next month? Whether it was to change it up a little, abandon ship or persevere, they were all appreciated.

In the end I decided to persevere.  I can't explain it but I didn't want this baby quilt to beat me which is weird as I'm the least competetive person you will find...or so I like to think.

So I went more scrappy, added in more of the green (not grey as I previously thought) fabrics and made it much more random. I passed it by Susan and she suggested I have the red HSTs meeting up as pinwheels so that the eye had somewhere to 'rest'.  I liked that idea and that got me playing and thinking and using more of the solids to meet up but not as pinwheels but as squares - kind of stepping stones through the cabbages and roses if you like.

So that's where I'm at.  It's a beautiful warm and bright sunny day here. I'm so much happier with the quilt top, which is good considering my husband was on the 'phone to his sister last night and told her I was making something for the baby.  No pressure there then.

I'm not complaining *cough* but it's still silly and unseasonably hot here and so a little hexagogoing was called for this afternoon.  I have 59 hexy flowers completed and a lot more to baste and piece. I'll be quite sad when this little project comes to an end as I'm loving the process.

WiP Wednesday

The end of the month is approaching and that means getting any languishing bee blocks completed and shipped off.

Back in the summer, I joined a new English Paper Piecing (EPP) bee called EEEEP EPP Bee set up by Danielle (DJ Coolbear).  My EPP experience up until then had been basting some hexies for my mum back in the '80s and my hexies this summer. Like with many things in life, I leaped in with 2 feet without thinking about it. Danielle's aim was for a relaxed bee where we would have 2 months to complete each month's blocks.

Lazy Days Lozenge Block 1

August's block is for Mary. She wants 2 scrappy Lazy Days Lozenge blocks by Lynne, the templates for which you can find here.  Mary sent us all some of her own scraps to be mixed with ours and some Kona charcoal for the squares and triangles. Her instructions were that no colour should dominate. They are fun to make, come together pretty quickly and a change from my lovely hexies. While I think I may be taking the whole relaxed vibe too literally, a whole quilt of these will look beautiful.

WIP Wednesday

When does a work in progress become a UFO I frequently ask myself as I stare at the growing pile of quilt tops on the spare bed (or granny's bed as it is affectionately known in our house).



For example, do you remember my Lark quilt top, which I made one afternoon back in.... January? No, I don't expect you do.  I know it's very simple but I really wanted to show off Amy Butler's fabrics, most of which are large scale.

While I was in England I picked up some batting and my mum bought me this Amy Butler fabric for the backing as part of my birthday present. So guess what I'll be doing tomorrow?  Yes - I'll be on all fours basting.

So my question for you this fine evening is: what do you think about the quilting?  I would like to do some straight line quilting and any suggestions would be very gratefully received.
